Graf-Anton-Guenther School Oldenburg

History

The Graf-Anton-Guenther School (colloquially called “GAG”) is a high school in Oldenburg, Lower-Saxony, Germany. The school is named after the last count of Oldenburg. In addition, the name indicates the claim and tradition to teach the student about sustainability.
The GAG goes back to the so-called “Aufbauschule”, which was established in 1922, during the settlement of the protestant teacher-seminars of Oldenburg in the building of the teachers-seminars. In 1938, the school was renamed “Graf-Anton-Guenther-School”. From 1946 to 1959, the GAG was housed in a building on the “Damm”, a large road which leads through Oldenburg.
But in 1996, the GAG moved to a building on the “Schleusenstraße” where the school is still located these days.
Today, a huge mosaic on the front side and an iron rider-statue are reminiscent of Count Anton-Guenther.
